Introducing the BMW M2 G87 with a 453hp S58 Twin Turbo

Still gas powered, with a 453hp Fire Breathing S58

Introducing the BMW M2 G87 with a 453hp S58 Twin Turbo

The BMW M2 is now in it’s second generation. The first generation, the F87 M2, went through a few revisions and ultimately ended production in 2021 with the M2 Competition which was powered by a 402 horsepower S55 from the F80 M3 and F82 M4. The new, second generation G87 M2 shares the same G8X platform and goes right for the bread and butter engine from BMW – the 3.0L Twin Turbo S58 found in the G80 M3 and G82 M4.

In the M2 this S58 makes 453 horsepower and is fed to the rear wheels through a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard. The rumors of this car being all wheel drive, partial hybrid or automatic only turned out to be not true. With a production run slated for 4 years, the Third Generation M2 will likely be of that nature with some kind of electrification.

Updated and looking good

Inside the G87 M2 features BMW’s sexy new Curved Display with iDrive 8 and M-Specific content and graphics which I think looks absolutely awesome. The display also shows a drift analyzer to tell you just how good (or bad) you are at drifting.

Track mode graphics look incredible

The G87 M2 dimensions are a bit different than the outgoing F87. It’s 180.3 inches long, 74.3 inches wide and 55.2 inches tall. That makes it 1.3″ wider and 4.1″ longer than the G87 M2 Competition. It also sits about .3″ lower.

This will be the first M2 to be built in BMW’s new plant in San Luis Potosi in Mexico with a launch date of April 2023.

The G87 M2 is starting at $62,200 for the base model (plus $995 destination charge) and I expect that to grow substantially as they release variants and options.
